This Museum fosters the discovery and appreciation of the visual arts of Africa, the cradle of humanity.

Frederick Douglass and Cedar Hill
Visit the home of Frederick Douglass, who spent his life in the late 1800’s working to abolish slavery and fight for the rights for all oppressed people.

Lincoln Memorial
Standing at the west end of the National Mall, this neoclassical monument is in honor the 16th President and feature the famous speech of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Lincoln Park
Initially in honor of President Lincoln, it later took hold by an African American woman who started fund raising among freed blacks to pay homage to the President.

Begin your day at any of the Smithsonian Museums where your group is free to explore the exhibits of African-American
Culture and Heritage. The National Air & Space Museum highlights "Black Wings: The American Black in Aviation"
and "Black Military Pilots". Examine the influence of Africa's peoples and cultures through time at the National
Museum of Natural History's "African Voices" exhibit or view some 6,000 works of art by African and African-American artists at the National Museum of African Art. After time for lunch on your own, meet your knowledgeable guide for a motorcoach tour to include Howard University or the Frederick Douglass House and Lincoln Park with its breathtaking statues of Abraham Lincoln and Mary McLeod Bethune. This tour focuses on Philadelphia’s African-American heritage. Begin your day with a visit to the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum, located in Center City. Also visit Philadelphia’s most significant stop on the Underground Railroad, Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church. Stroll through Society Hill to see many sites, including Head House Square, “Old Pine” Church, which was another stop on the Underground Railroad, Washington Square and Willing’s Alley, where the Free African School was located. Also see the Liberty Bell, named by an anti-slavery society, called the “Friends of Freedom”.

Day 1: Head for Fredericksburg, VA. You will meet your guide and begin your African-American focus tour. This driving tour leads us past Kenmore, a school for slaves and Shiloh Old Site and Shiloh New Site Churches. Then travel
down Sunken Road past the National Cemetery. You’ll also tour Chatham, the Georgian-style mansion best known for its role during the Battle of Fredericksburg. Dinner will be at Captain George’s Seafood Buffet. Day 2: After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide for today’s heritage tour of Colonial Williamsburg. This program focuses on the heritage
of African-Americans and the journey from slavery to freedom. Enjoy lunch on your own at Merchants Square. Next take a guided tour of Yorktown Victory Center.
